BAC Awarded Community Funding Grant from the City of Douglas

Border Arts Corridor (BAC) is proud to announce they have been awarded a $15,000 grant through the City of Douglas Community Funding Program, approved by the Douglas Mayor and City Council on March 12, 2024. This funding will support BAC’s ongoing commitment to supporting the cultural and artistic landscape of Douglas through arts programming and community engagement initiatives.

BAC, a leader in arts-based community engagement, and binational cultural programming, will utilize the funds to strengthen three key initiatives:

  • BAC Fellowship: Providing direct financial and professional development support to local artists through stipends, mentorship, and public engagement opportunities.

  • Binational Artwalk: Expanding the annual cross-border event that connects artists from Douglas and Agua Prieta, featuring performances, exhibitions, and artist-led experiences that celebrate the region’s shared cultural heritage.

  • Binational Theater Program in Collaboration with Stories That Soar: Supporting bilingual, community-driven storytelling performances that bring real-life experiences to the stage, fostering literacy, self-expression, and cultural dialogue.

"We are honored to receive this investment from the City of Douglas, which will help us continue our mission of supporting artists and engaging the community through the arts" said Jenea Sanchez, Founder and Co-Executive Director of BAC. "These programs uplift local talent in our region and strengthen cross-border connections grounded in creative expression.

The funding aligns with BAC’s broader vision of activating public spaces, fostering cross-cultural dialogue, and supporting economic opportunities for artists. With a strong history of securing diverse funding sources, including support from the Mellon Foundation and the Arizona Commission on the Arts, BAC remains committed to ensuring the long-term sustainability of its programs.
